Coordinated by Gambro (partner 10) in collaboration with partners 1a, 1c, and 6.
The objective of WP9 is to gain a better understanding of the importance of known points of complement regulation and the novel points of regulation identified in the DIREKT project by implementation in a clinically relevant situation.
While WP2 aims at identifying points of regulation in the cross-talk between blood and material, and WP3 and WP4 focus on the creation of new regulators and biomaterial surfaces, WP9 will evaluate these novel regulators/surfaces in an extracorporeal circuit system of hemodialysis. This extracorporeal circuit system will employ commercially available and clinically relevant filters and simulate the same exposure conditions as observed during hemodialysis. Thereby, comparison of different therapeutic options for preventing complement activation in the extracorporeal circuit will be evaluated.
